Will You Grow Healthy Community With Us In 2024?

Did you know LEAF served 30% of our local population last year? Are you aware that 280 people donated 6027.50 hours of their time last year to make it happen?

Whether it was weekly attendance at our Food Pantry, daily hot meals and warm “hellos” from our Meals on Wheels team, helping a family stay in their home, providing critical community-based mental health care, or providing herbicide-free weed removal to keep Lyons healthy and safe, LEAF was here, Growing Healthy Community in Lyons.

Life can be hard. Most of us will need to reach out for help at some point. Aren’t you glad LEAF is here, caring and local, for the people you care about? We help keep Lyons the vibrant, unique, creative, close-knit community that we all know and love. We solve problems and grow stability.

The fact remains that mental health needs are at an all-time high. Attendance at our Food Pantry has not slowed down since the COVID pandemic. As a community, we have to get ahead of the serious and painful problems that are hurting so many of us. Youth need mental health support. People need a place to gather and to belong. We are preparing to move to our own location for all these reasons and more.

LEAF’s comprehensive human and behavioral health services offer wrap-around support to people in their time of need. We are here, Growing Healthy Community all year long.

If you are in a position to make a financial gift in support of our day-to-day work, or to help make Lyons’ new community hub a reality, it is needed and greatly appreciated. We can’t do it without you! You have our promise that your gift will be used to help your friends and neighbors right here in Lyons.

On behalf of our Board of Directors, 280 volunteers, small staff, and hundreds of people with whom LEAF works, I offer our most humble and grateful thank you.

Plant  A Row For The Pantry

Are you planting a vegetable garden? The Lyons Community Food Pantry and its participants would be so happy if you will plant a row of veggies to donate! Or, if you are a container gardener, plant a tomato, a few lettuces, or a squash for the Pantry. The Pantry can accept home grown vegetables, and produce is always needed. Produce can’t be stored like canned goods or cleaning supplies, so it is harder for food pantries in general to provide enough good quality produce for folks. Lyons Community Food Pantry is no different. Once it is ripe and picked, bring the produce by any Wednesday between 9:30am and 2:30pm. We will happily and gratefully distribute it during Food Pantry hours that day!

Lyons Community Food Pantry is committed to the safety and health of those who receive food from us. All food donations are sorted to comply with federal, state, and local food safety regulations. You can help by following these guidelines when donating food:

Fresh Produce: Uncut with no signs of mold, spoilage, or severe bruising; we accept garden-fresh produce as well.
Dairy Products: Unopened; must have been kept at 41 degrees Fahrenheit or lower at all times (including transportation to CFS); donated on or before the sell-by date.
Baked Goods: Must be prepared in a licensed kitchen; in original packaging with proper labeling; donated no more than 2 days past the sell-by date.
Meat Products: Unopened and frozen on or before the sell-by date; items must be less than 3 months old (and frozen the entire time).
